STRATEGIC DIRECTIONS FOR 2003-2005

 

STRATEGIC DIRECTION 5:  UW Libraries will serve as centers of knowledge and information for their campuses by providing the physical facilities and IT infrastructure to promote teaching and learning and will meet privacy and accessibility requirements for all students, faculty and staff.

·  The UW libraries will function as centers for collaborative learning, group study, private research and specialized instruction as well as repositories for collections. 

Actions:

Ž      In regards to patron privacy and the implications of laws and regulations such as the USA Patriot Act, discuss and recommend policy that will address the appropriate retention of user’s data.

Ž      CUWL will establish a working group to explore options for collaborative auxiliary storage for physical collections.

Ž      Work with campus IT to ensure network capacity, hardware, and software to support information retrieval.

Ž      Working with appropriate UW-System and campus offices, and outside vendors, assure that workstations, web pages, web-based information resources (such as journal databases), web-based instructional applications (such as courseware and simulations) and online services implement standards required for access by users with disabilities and implement the recommendations in “Report of the Committee on Access to Technology for Individuals with Disabilities” , “Distance Education Standards for Academic and Student Support Services”, and “UW System Policy on Library Support for Distance Education, Extended Education Students and Faculty”.
