Plat books in the Government Publications Dept. are in 5 locations:
1. Most regular-sized books are shelved in the Library of Congress classification materials on the north side.
2. The most recent edition of each county’s plat book is shelved in the GP Reserve area.
3. Oversize editions are shelved on a wooden atlas case against the inside wall on the north side.
4. Fragile oversize plat books are designated Rare Books, oversize and are shelved flat on the selves on the north side with other large Rare Books materials.
5. Fragile, old plat books that are regular-sized are shelved in the Rare Books Room.
** Create a separate MFHD record for each location EXCEPT GP Reserve:
Gov,lc GovDoc (US and Wis)
Gov,lcov SpecColl non-circulating
Rare SpecColl non-circulating
Rare,ov SpecColl non-circulating
** Designate the most recent edition on GP Reserve by giving it a TEMPORARY LOCATION of Gov Reserve. When a new edition is received, change the designation of the older edition and add a Temporary Location for the latest edition.
** NOTE: On the Item Record, in Item Type change Book to GovDoc (US and Wis) for materials with LC call numbers (even if they are not documents) because that affects the circulation period, according to Carole.
** Put the year of the edition in the Chronology line.
