Distance Education ServicesCoordinator: Terri Muraski | Tel: 715-346-3349 Library services provided for distance education are parallel to the services provided to students on campus. The library's web site is your primary gateway to the information resources of the library. Be sure to familiarize yourself with the library catalog, online indexes and databases, the Virtual Reference desk, request forms, guides, and online assistance available via the University Library web pages. Books and other non-print materials To search for books, select Library Catalog on the Library's homepage. The library has access to thousands of books in electronic format. In the Library Catalog, use the Set More Limits button and limit your search by Location to Internet Resources. UWSP distance education students may also request books from our collection. The books will be delivered to a library near your home or mailed directly to you. Send your request via email to Terri Muraski, Access Services Librarian. Please be aware that regular loan periods are in effect and that you are responsible for returning the materials to the Library. Books may be renewed online through the My Account option. If UWSP does not own the book that you need, try the
Universal Borrowing (UB) service to
access the collections of other UW libraries. UB items may be
delivered to the UWSP library or to another UW campus near your home.
The typical library to library delivery time for Universal Borrowing is
48 hours. Journal articles Many journal articles are available in full text through the Library's online indexes. From the Library's home page, select one of the options under ReSearch Point. You can use the Article Quicksearch option for a quick search of a few of the general journal, magazine and newspaper indexes available online. You might also use the Find Article Databases link to search for your favorite index, or if you are uncertain of the best database, use the Article Databases by Subject and then select the subject of your choice to see a list of the resources available. These indexes allow you to search across your discipline for your topic and provide you with a list of articles from journals, magazines or newspapers. Indexes that provide full text articles are indicated in the list. The Journals A-Z link will allow you to check which journals are available either in print at the library or online via one of the full text databases.
Access to most of the indexes is restricted to UWSP
students. For off-campus access you will be asked to enter your
UWSP username and password. Be sure that you have activated your
campus account. For assistance, consult the
Off-Campus Users Help
instructions, or call the
University's Help Desk (715-346-4357) or the Library's Reference Desk (715-346-2836). Reference Assistance For assistance with your research contact a Reference librarian via telephone (715-346-2836) or email.
