The Media Lab is located in the Instructional Materials Center on the third floor of the University Library. Here you can produce your own materials for class or personal use in various media formats. Each process has step by step instructions and there is someone to help you get started. The Lab Supervisor is available to help you plan projects and decide on the most effective media format. There is no charge for using the lab. You pay only for production supplies.

 

The Media Lab also provides digital video cameras for check-out to certain user groups.

  • color copier/printer (up to 11" x 17"; own paper is permitted)
  • computer graphics software, clipart
  • flatbed scanner
  • digital camera rental
  • dry mounting
  • lamination
  • lettering
  • poster printer
  • slide production
  • slide projector rental
  • slide-tape production
  • transparencies

Production Materials/Supplies

The Media Lab has almost all the supplies you'll need to do all the production processes available. In addition, the Media Lab has light tables, typewriter, paper cutters, scissors, drawing aids, x-acto knives, magazines to cut up, adhesives, tracing paper, art stencils, dictionary, paper punches, computer graphics software, etc.

Digital video cameras

Some of the Media Lab's Canon ZR 800 Mini DV digital video camcorders are available for checkout to patrons with a UWSP ID card. (Others are only available to students in qualifying Communication and WDMD classes.) The recording medium is a mini digital videocassette, available for purchase in the Media Lab. Loan periods are usually for two days or for a weekend, beginning on Friday afternoon. Fines for late returns are $1 per hour.
