1. What is Find It!?
Find It! is a new library service that:
  • provides direct links from a citation in a database to electronic full-text of an article (when available).
  • performs a search in the UWSP Library catalog for a book or journal title.
  • allows users to request a journal/magazine article via Interlibrary Loan if the print or electronic version is not available.

2. How do I use Find It!?
Currently, Find It! is available in many databases subscribed to by the UWSP Library. In these databases,  citations with a Find It! button will  link to a menu of possible Find It! options, or retrieve the full-text article.

3. Why don't I see the Find It! button in PaperChem?
For PaperChem you will need to click on the "Find this item from UWSP" text-link.  Clicking on this text functions exactly the same way as does.

6. Where does the electronic full-text in Find It! come from?

  • We purchase nearly 5,000 'true' electronic journals directly from the publishers. Examples include JSTOR, Elsevier ScienceDirect, Kluwer, and many more.
  • Some electronic full-text comes from full-text databases, also called aggregators. Examples include EBSCO's Academic Search Elite, WilsonWeb, and ABI Inform Global.

7. Why doesn't the Find It! full-text option take me directly to the article?
We try to get you as close to the full-text article as possible, but in some cases the database does not allow access directly to full-text.  Instead, you may see:
  • a table of contents screen for a journal title; you will need to navigate to your issue and article.
  • the main database search screen if the full-text comes from a full-text database like Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe; in this case you will have to repeat your search.

8. Why is there sometimes no fulltext option in the Find It! menu?
Sometimes electronic full-text is not available because:
  • UWSP Library does not subscribe to full-text versions of a journal.
  • no electronic full-text is available anywhere.
  • journal titles contained in some full-text databases do not work with Find It! Check Journals for the most complete list of electronic journal titles.

9. Why do I sometimes get a "Sorry, no matching records" message when I click on the
    "UWSP Library Catalog" option?
Choosing this option should take you directly to a matching catalog record if we own the item. If no matching records appear, then you can click on the "Request document via UWSP Library Interlibrary Loan."

10. Where can I get help?

Because Find It! works from within multiple databases, no help screens are currently available.
For additional assistance, ask a reference librarian. Comments or questions may also be
sent electronically to lrcrefde@uwsp.edu

11. What is Article Finder?
If you have a citation for a journal article from any source, like a bibliography, a reading list, or your professor and would like to find the article, use Article Finder.  Enter as much information as you have (Note: there are some required fields) and click on the button labeled 'Find It! '. This is a fast way to discover whether the UWSP Library has access to the full text of the article.
