Downloading & Installing ^®Acrobat Reader

1.  Click on the link below to download ^®Acrobat Reader:

Get ®Acrobat Reader for all platforms (Windows, Macintosh and other operating systems)

2.  Before you connect to the site, you will get a "File Download" box prompting you to run the program from its location or save to a disk.  Always choose save to disk:

3.  After connecting to the site Internet Explorer or Netscape Communicator will prompt you to save the file to your computer's hard drive (e.g., in Windows you should get a "Save as ...." window).  Remember the location and name of the file that you download:

4.  After the download is complete, close Internet Explorer or Netscape Communicator.  Please remember that this is a large file, and will take many minutes or even hours to download, depending on the speed of your connection. 

5.  Locate the file that you downloaded onto your computer using Windows Explorer.  The fastest way to load Windows Explorer is to RIGHT mouse-click on START:

The file will have a name like "ar405eng.exe."  Once you locate the file, highlight and double-click on the file name, and Acrobat will run the installation program:

6.  Follow the installation instructions on your screen.  ^®Acrobat Reader will automatically install itself onto your computer to work with Internet Explorer or Netscape.

7.  Run ^®Acrobat Reader.  Select File/Preferences/General.  If the box preceding the section called "Web Browser Integration" is checked, uncheck it.  This will permit Adobe files to be viewed in ^®Acrobat Reader directly, in a separate window from the browser.  Some PDF files require this, and may not be read if this box is checked:

8.  Re-load Internet Explorer or Netscape Communicator and you will be able to read "PDF" files!
