Access Services Librarian
Position Description:
Overview:
The University Library seeks a creative, public service oriented Access
Services Librarian to manage all aspects, including policy and planning,
of access services: main circulation, print and electronic reserve,
interlibrary loan, and distance education support. This librarian takes
an active role in the library’s instruction program, reference services,
and collection development, and participates fully in scholarship and
service as a tenure track library faculty member. The Access Services
Librarian is responsible for supervising support staff and works
collaboratively with library faculty to meet the mission and goals of
the University Library.
Responsibilities:
Access Services
·
Coordinate and provide collaborative leadership for Main
Circulation, Reserve, Interlibrary Loan, and other patron initiated
borrowing.
·
Develop initiatives to assess and improve access services.
·
Supervise 3.5 support staff.
·
Respond to emerging needs of distance education students and
collaboratively support integration of the library with course
management systems.
·
Provide knowledge of copyright law as applicable to access
services.
·
Participate in University of Wisconsin System committees related
to access services.
·
Work collaboratively with other library faculty and staff in
support of the Library’s mission.
Reference, Instruction, and Collection Development
·
Provide reference service (some evening and weekend hours) and
maintain a working knowledge of print and electronic reference
sources.

Contribute to the
Library’s bibliographic instruction program, which may include teaching
and developing materials for discipline
specific library sessions, a one credit Library Resources course,
or workshops.

Take part in
collection development and perform campus departmental liaison duties.Z

Founded in 1894 as a state normal school, the University of
Wisconsin-Stevens Point is a leading comprehensive regional university
with 8,800 undergraduate and 400 graduate students. The four academic
colleges offer 48 majors, 75 minors, and 16 graduate programs. UWSP has
consistently been named one of the top public Midwestern universities in
U.S. News and World Report’s
college rankings. The 400 acre campus is located near the Wisconsin
River and includes a 275 acre nature preserve with a 24 acre lake.
The mission of the University Library is to provide users with
information in support of teaching, student learning, scholarly activity
and research, and curricular development. The University Library’s
collection houses over 400,000 books and periodicals, and the government
publications collection contains over one million items. The Library
utilizes technology to provide on campus and remote access to its
resources. The faculty of the University Library provides consultation
and advisory services to groups and individuals, participates in
classroom instruction, teaches formal classes in the use of information
materials, and participates in professional and scholarly activities
that enhance the mission of the University at the regional, national,
and international levels.
Qualifications:
• ALA-accredited MLS degree.
• Second master’s (minimum) required for tenure. Preferred at hiring,
but may be earned during first years of employment.
• Previous experience in one or more areas of access services required.
• Relevant supervisory and coordination experience in an academic
library preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience with emerging and current
technologies related to circulation (such as Voyager integrated library
system), reserve, interlibrary loan (such as ILLIAD), and distance
education.
• Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
• Strong service orientation.
• Effective instructional skills.
• Flexibility in adapting to change.
• Ability and desire to work as part of collegial team and with diverse
populations.
Appointment Date:
Academic year appointment
beginning January 2008 or negotiable.Terms
of Employment:
Tenure track position with faculty rank (Rank and salary dependent upon
experience and qualifications); academic year (9 month) appointment.
Short term summer contracts are available subject to funding.
