SEE DICK! SEE JANE!

Graphic of SallyThe friends most baby boomers heard about when they learned to read have come to visit!

The Story of Dick and Jane is being told in the Library lobby on the first floor of the LRC, April 5-28, 1996. The traveling exhibit, mounted by the Friends of the Richmond (VA) Public Library, won a John Cotton Dana PR award in 1995. This exhibit covers the 40 years (1930-1970) these books were used to teach children to read. Included are 100 original textbooks, 100 mounted color reproductions of pages, life size stand-up reproductions of Dick, Jane, and Sally; and school supplies and toys from the period, lent by library staff members. A handout sheet listing interesting facts about Dick and Jane books is available.

Two videocassettes about the books will be shown during the University's Open House on April 14, 1996. Also, posters of the exhibit will be available for purchase. After Open House on April 14, posters may be purchased in the Academic Support Programs & Information Technology office (Room 206 LRC).

For more information about this exhibit, please call Anne Swenson (x4937) or Sybil Strupp (x3601), University Library.
