Assistant
Professor Tom Reich has been appointed as the new Collection Development
Librarian at the UWSP University Library.
Tom is certainly no stranger to UWSP. Tom has served the last few years as a Library Services Assistant Advanced in Government Documents, and has been very active in the Library, the community and at UWSP. His background includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and History and a Master of Science in History from UWSP, and a Master of Library and Information Science from UW-Milwaukee.
Tom's graduate work has received many honors. His thesis about UWSP’s role in advising the South Vietnamese government on education, Higher education in Vietnam : United States Agency for International Development Contract in Education, was selected for the Midwestern Association of Graduate Schools (MAGS) 2004 Distinguished Thesis Award (see the University Library's news release), and it also received the Win Rothman Local History Award, given by the Portage County Historical Society to amateur/lay historians and professional historians for research based on local history (see the University Library's news release). Tom was a recipient of the UWSP Chancellor's Leadership Award in 2003 and, while working as Graduate Assistant in the History Department, received the Graduate Council's Award for "Outstanding Research Assistant." In addition to his research, Tom has been co-coordinator of the Central Region competition for National History Day in Wisconsin for five years, and during one year served as both state and regional coordinator.
