Banned Books Week

September 28 - October 5, 1996

Banned Books Week 1996 is the fifteenth annual promotion celebrating the freedom to read. The first Banned Books Week, held in September, 1982, featured displays of challenged books in libraries across the nation and generated public and press attention for First Amendment concerns.

The Library has set up a display of selected banned books with explanations as to why they were banned on the east side of the lobby. For additional reading, here are two Banned Book Web sites:
