Axel
Schmetzke is the new Reference and Instruction Librarian in the
University Library. Assistant Professor Schmetzke comes to us most
recently from the UW-Madison Department of Educational Policy Studies,
where he taught School and Society courses, and the Department of
Ophthalmology, where he implemented a local area network and provided
user instruction and assistance for medical researchers. His
experience also includes being on the staff at the University of
Wisconsin-Whitewater, in the Department of Educational Foundations,
where he taught in the core Education curriculum, and as an Assistant
Professor at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. At Edinboro,
Axel taught in the special education curriculum in the Department of
Special Education and School Psychology.
Axel holds a Ph.D. in Educational Policy Studies and an MS in Behavioral Disabilities from UW-Madison; a Master's degree in Library and Information Science from UW-Milwaukee, and an Education degree from Philipps Universitat in Marburg, Germany. Axel's interests are many, including sailing and kayaking. He is also actively engaged in researching access to electronic resources for people with disabilities.
