The
University Library is pleased to announce that Ruth Wachter-Nelson
is the new University Archivist of the
Nelis R. Kampenga University Archives. Wachter-Nelson succeeds
William Paul, Archivist from 1975-1999. Paul succeeded
Emeritus Professor
Nelis Kampenga, for whom the center was named in 1996.
Ruth comes to the position most recently as a member of the staff of UWSP's Government Documents Department. She was formerly University Archivist and Special Collections Librarian at the Banks Library at Prairie View A&M University in Texas. She also served as Head Librarian at St. Michael's Hospital in Stevens Point, and as Director of the Learning Resources Center at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, Wisconsin.
Ruth has held internships and has been active in photographic preservation and archives administration workshops at the State Historical Society of Wisconsin. While at the Banks Library in Texas, she organized and surveyed a photograph collection for inclusion in the Texas Historical Foundation's Union List of Texas Photograph Collections.
Ruth holds Bachelor of Science degrees in history and in political science from UWSP, and a Master of Arts in Library and Information Studies from UW-Madison. She is pursuing a Master of Arts in History from UW-Eau Claire.
