The
UWSP community now has access to over 1,560 purchased and 4,035 publicly
available electronic books ("e-books"). The University Library has joined the
Wisconsin Academic Library Consortium, which consists of 11 private universities
and colleges, 7 technical schools, and the 26 UW-System campuses, in offering
e-books through netLibrary™.
NetLibrary is an online library of digitized books, consisting of a broad range of reference, scholarly and professional works from a growing number of commercial and university presses. This broad collection covers most disciplines and also has a wide-ranging collection of reference works, dictionaries, bibliographies, guides and handbooks. The system allows an easy-to-use method of accessing and retrieving books by browsing subjects or by title, author, or keyword searching; or the entire text of any e-book may be searched. UWSP users visiting netLibrary can search or browse the entire netLibrary collection and view available e-books online. Users may view e-books free for 15 minutes of quick reference, or borrow for up to 24 hours and read at leisure. If a book is checked out, users may queue to see it upon return. Users don't have to worry about returning items because they are automatically returned.
Users must first create a free netLibrary account to check out e-books, modify preferences, and establish bookshelves. After you create an account and log in, you will be searching only the purchased UWSP e-book collection. To search both purchased and public access e-books, check the box Include public eBooks:
Works in the public domain part of the collection do not need to be checked out since an unlimited number of copies are available. The public access title list is available from NetLibrary:
Users can also download the free netLibrary e-book ReaderTM, software that provides the ability to read e-books offline on a PC, without being connected to the Internet. Laptop users for example, have the ability to read netLibrary e-books any time and anywhere they choose.
