The Association of Portage County Librarians (public and parochial schools, UWSP, special, and public libraries) is hosting the 2nd annual Favorite Poem Project Reading, to be held in the Pinery Room of the Portage County Public Library on Monday, April 2 at 7:00 p.m.
Fifteen readers will each share a favorite poem with the audience by reading it aloud and telling why that particular poem is special to them. Poetry readers include elementary and secondary school students, the Stevens Point mayor, and other community members from all walks of life. Cookies, beverage, and time to chat follows. Last year's event was a special evening!

For more information, check out the Favorite Poem Project website at http://www.favoritepoem.org or the recently published book Americans' Favorite Poems, edited by Robert Pinsky. Our local reading is inspired by former U.S. poet laureate Pinsky who began the project in April 1998. Since then there have been readings in towns and cities across the country. Video and audio copies of poetry readings like this one are in the Library of Congress archival collection. |
