Access Services Librarian

The University Library is seeking to fill a vacancy for Access Services Librarian.

Position Description:

• Coordinate Main Circulation, Reserve, and Interlibrary Loan composed of 3.25 support staff
• Respond to emerging needs of distance-education students
• Contribute to UWSP’s library instruction program
• Provide reference service (some evening and weekend hours)
• Coordinate publicity and promote user-awareness
• Participate in faculty governance, scholarship and service

Department/University Description:

UW-Stevens Point has a long and proud academic tradition. In 1894 Stevens Point Normal School opened its doors as a teacher training school to 306 students. UWSP now offers 54 undergraduate majors and confers master's degrees in 12 disciplines as one of the 13 4-year campuses of the University of Wisconsin System. With approximately 8,400 undergraduate and graduate students, the University offers a diversity of programs within an individualized educational environment. While UW-SP is one of the state's largest undergraduate liberal arts schools, it also has academic colleges in letters and science, natural resources, professional studies, and fine arts and communication.

The University Library houses one of the finest collections of information resources in the UW-System. In addition to almost 400,000 books and periodicals, our government publications collection of over 1 million items is the largest repository of federal and state documents outside of the State Historical Society in Madison. The Library utilizes technology to provide access to its catalog, over 100 specialized commercial and local electronic databases, over 5,000 e-journals, 5,000 e-books, and millions of Internet information sources through computer workstations in offices, dorms, and computer labs all over the campus and throughout the region. Students are assisted personally and in groups or classes by an enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff committed to helping each UWSP student become "Information Literate."

Qualifications:

• ALA-accredited MLS degree
• Second master’s (minimum) required for tenure
• Two years of relevant supervisory and coordination experience in an academic library preferred
• Excellent communication and organizational abilities
• Strong service orientation
• Techno-savvy
• Effective instructional skills
• Flexibility in adapting to change
• Ability and desire to work as part of collegial team, and with diverse populations

Appointment Date: Academic year appointment beginning Spring semester 2003, January 15, 2003.

Terms of Employment: Tenure-track position with faculty rank (Rank and salary dependent upon experience and qualifications).
