Portage County Wisconsin Historical Society Photo Exhibit

Date:

Description: The Palace of Sweets was called the "Pal" by college students. It was opened before WWI by Arthur Hetzel on the site of what is now the downtown Sentry Building, later moving to Main Street at the location of what became Jim Laabs music store (the location of this photo). A. Frank and Fannie Barrows, and later their son Allen (who eventually became Director of Libraries at UW-Stevens Point) acquired a part interest and ran the restaurant until its closing in 1967.
