CARD HOLDER'S RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Portage County Library user, you are important to us. This
brochure lists some of the library rules. Library cards are issued free of
charge to residents of Portage County and other borrowers. Library
cardholders are responsible for all materials checked out on their library
cards. Parents are responsible for materials checked out by their
children. This includes payment of overdue fees and replacement charges
for lost or damaged items, as well as prompt notice of change of address.
GENERAL INFORMATION
The loan period for most items is 21 days. New books, and some non-book
items have shorter loan periods.
NEW books are checked out for 14 days.
Videos are checked out for at least 7 days. Adult non-fiction videos may be
borrowed for 14 days.
DAILY OVERDUE CHARGES
Overdue charges are 25 cents a day for books and other items from the
adult collection; 5 cents a day for items from the youth collection.
Charges are higher for some types of non-book materials. If you have
unreturned items or overdue charges which exceed $3.00, you will not be
able to borrow more items.
Videocassettes (Adult and Children's) - $1.00 per day overdue.
Interlibrary loan items - $1.00 per day overdue.
GRACE PERIOD
Books and many other items have a 72-hour grace period. If books are
returned within the grace period, no overdue charges will be assessed.
There is no grace
period on videos or interlibrary loan items.
RENEWALS
Most items may be renewed unless the item is on hold by another
patron. Items on hold, and interlibrary loan items may
not be renewed. If an item is renewed after the due date, the overdue
charge is calculated and attached to the cardholder's record.
MAXIMUM CHARGE
Although there is a maximum charge per item, there is no maximum
accumulated charge. Ten items overdue could accumulate to ten dollars, ten
videos overdue could accumulate to 100 dollars.
OTHER CHARGES
The library reserves the right to recover all costs associated with
repairing or replacing items or barcode labels, invoicing, registered mail,
pickup charges, etc.
NOTICES
The first overdue notice is generated by the computer within seven days of
the due date; the second after 21 days. An invoice is generated 35 days
after the due date.
