  Most respected print financial resources now have counterparts on the world wide web. These are often good sites to find financial advice, comparisons, and news of interest, but are usually partially or fully restricted to users who pay registration fees (see A Word About Fee-Based Services on the Internet below). Most of the following require immediate registration in order to access more than a few articles, even for free service. Read the fine print for registration requirements and expectations before registering.

BigCharts
Covers mutual funds and stocks, with quotes as far back as 1985. The “Stock Sectors”option allows you to look up stocks in a certain sector, and you may view the results of your searches in a pre-formatted (“quick”) or a self-formatted (“interactive”) chart. You may receive weekly chart updates if you have HTML enhanced email (Netscape Messenger or Internet Explorer 4.0).

Business Week Online
In cooperation with Standard & Poor's, many services including excellent links to news and research materials for investing.

InfoBeat
Free email service will mail you self-specified financial/investment reports, including morning, evening and/or weekly quotes. Minimal registration required.

InsureMarket
Lots of life and auto insurance information, including personalized quotes, a primer on insurance basics, and links to major insurers.

Invest-o-Rama!
closed its web site effective June 1, 2001. A possible substitute is Investorguide.com is published by WebFinance Inc., a five year old provider of investment resources on the web.

InvestTOOLS
Offers many free services, such as links to free annual reports and other investment research information. Many more services available for purchase.

Netstock Direct
Provides a searchable list of DRP (dividend reinvestment programs) and no-load stocks.

Quicken Insurance formerly InsureMarket
Lots of life and auto insurance information, including personalized quotes, a primer on insurance basics, and links to major insurers.

Quote.Com
Free delayed quotes and fee-based real time quotes. Thorough and detailed quote coverage, plus links to many other financial resources.

Silicon Investor
Focuses primarily on “tech” stocks, with emphasis on message boards and chat. Other financial services also available.

Online Brokers
Before making any trades with online brokerages, check out the Gomez Advisors to see how the online brokerages rate. One of the most generally recommended sites is ETrade, where most trades require low commissions.

An excellent source for stock information, including quotes on 86,000 stocks from companies in 39 countries, as well as mutual fund quote, news, and industry overviews. Requires registration and paid subscription.
