Course Reserves

Course Reserve and E-reserve collections provide access to supplemental course related materials that are required or recommended by instructors. These materials are provided in support of the university’s academic mission. Access to the materials is limited to UWSP faculty and UWSP students actively enrolled in courses.

Physical Course Reserve Materials

Materials can be placed on reserve with a loan period of: 3 Hours, 1 Day, 3 Days, or 7 Days

Late fee information can be found here.

Items available for reserve: Items not available for reserve:
  • Books
  • Videos
  • CDs
  • Personal Copies of:
    • Books
    • Videos
    • CDs
    • Sample papers and tests

Items not owned by a UWSP library cannot be placed on reserve for any amount of time.

 

This includes materials acquired via UW Resource Sharing and Interlibary Loan.

Electronic Course Reserve Materials

We are able to assist with adding the following materials to your canvas course:

  • Short excerpts (10%) or a single chapter from a book
  • Individual articles to which UWSP has access
  • Instructor-generated materials
  • Music and classroom lectures in MP3 or MP4 format
  • Links to materials available through the databases of the UWSP Libraries
  • Hyperlinks to existing web pages
  • Links to streaming videos available from the subscritpions of the UWSP Libraries

If you’re unsure if something qualifies for reserve or if you’re having trouble locating a material for reserve contact us!

If we do not have access to the materials you are looking for, we may have options for purchasing copies.

When submitting a request for reserve please include the following information:

  • item name(s)
  • author name(s)
  • date of creation
  • Loan period desired
  • page ranges/selections to be scanned
  • date items are needed by
  • the course the materials are needed for

Statment on Copyright and Course Reserves:

The UWSP Libraries abide by the United States Copyright Act of 1976, as well as the fair-use provisions of Section 107 regarding the making of copies for classroom use.

We use four factors in determining fair use:

  1. The purpose and character of the use (including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit education purposes).
  2. The nature of the copyrighted work.
  3. The amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole. 
  4. The effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.
